Deadly Novel Coronavirus has killed over 1000 people across the world. Mainland China witnessed the outbreak of the virus in December last year, from one and a half month, it has proved to be an epidemic not only for China but across the world. Recently, the World Health Organisation (WHO) declared Coronavirus as the global threat even more than terrorism.
Speaking on the deadly virus, WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that the world must “wake up and consider this enemy virus as public enemy number one.” China’s chief medical advisor on Coronavirus and a prominent epidemiologist –Zhong Nanshan said, “I hope this outbreak or this event may be over in something like April.”
Zhong also claimed that although the number of new cases has been falling in some of the provinces, February would be the peak of the epidemic. China witnessed more than 99 per cent of the total COVID-19 (the official name by WHO, were ‘co’ stands for corona, ‘vi’ stands for virus, ‘d’ for the disease and ‘19’ the year of the outbreak).
Along with the threat to human life, the virus is also squeezing the gigantic economy of China. Following the Chinese Lunar New Year holidays, a significant number of corporates are not able to get back to their businesses amidst the outbreak. Many economists believe that the outbreak has already started to break the backbone of the second-largest economy of the world.
India is responding quickly to the outbreak, along with preparing the necessary infrastructure for Coronavirus, Indian government hurriedly evacuated over 600 Indians from Wuhan. At home, the government stated that it is monitoring and reviewing the situation on a daily basis. Officers at airports, ports and at border crossings have been trained on the management of Coronavirus.
Along with it, the government has also introduced the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) to track and follow up passengers coming from China, Singapore, Taiwan and Hong Kong. Moreover, adequate logistics of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is made available.
