ABB Power Grids India has recently signed an MoU with the National Institute of Technology, Warangal, Telangana to launch the first of its kind Master of Technology (M.Tech) programme in Smart Electric Grid from the current academic year. The new initiative is intended to promote skill development and research activities in SEG and strengthen collaboration between academia and industry. “Building the right talent pool is crucial for building a sustainable grid of the future. And we are really pleased to be partnering with NITW to achieve higher levels of technical excellence in this domain,” said N Venu, MD, ABB Power Grids’ business in India. The MoU has been signed during a virtual meeting held on June 25.
In addition to its focus on education and skill development, the initiative is also aimed to boost the ongoing efforts in bringing power to all with reduced carbon emissions. “The development of India’s power network has become a driving force in meeting the demand for rapid growth in urban and rural areas. Our aim is to create the right educational framework and environment that enables a cleaner, greener and smarter grid,” said Prof. N V Ramana Rao, Director, NITW.
The technology company and NITW will collaboratively design curriculum that is socially relevant yet internationally acceptable. Innovative teaching methodologies will be developed and the course will focus on a holistic development of students at the Institute. Furthermore, ABB Power Grids will help the institute in setting up a laboratory for SEG technology and offer internships for the students. NITW is known for its healthy academic environment, however its vision as an academic institution, is to produce globally competent electrical engineers with strong scientific temperament as well as the basic professional ethics.
