CBSE, in technical collaboration with the Centre of Excellence for Blockchain Technology, came up with a solution to record the academic documents securely in a tamper-proof manner. These documents can be accessed online in a trusted verifiable manner.

CBSE Academic BlockChain Documents (ABCD) are ascertained to document the certificates in a structured linked chain. The result certificates are kept in a distributed manner at different locations involving multiple stakeholders, protecting them against attempts of tampering. CBSE is all set to use this Blockchain technology as to secure board exam documents

Digitally, CBSE made available signed certificates of Class 10 and 12 for years 2019-2021. The academic documents can be accessed online in a trusted and verifiable manner. CBSE, has come up with the solution to securely record academic documents in a tamper-proof manner – Academic BlockChain Documents in a technical collaboration with the Centre of Excellence for Blockchain Technology.

ABCD has been established to record the certificates in a linked chain structure. The result certificates are stored in a distributed manner at different locations involving multiple stakeholders, protecting them against any attempt of tampering.

All users from students, educational institutions to employers can now verify academic documents by following these steps:

  1. Visit cbse.certchain.nic.in or cbse.gov.in
  2. Click on the “Verify” menu option on the top menu bar available on the home page.
  3. Select the class from the pop-up.
  4. Fill in basic details like roll no, date of birth (in case of Class 10 only), exam year, exam type and student name (partial). Press ‘Go’ to confirm.
  5. Once the details are validated, the marks statement (available presently) of the student is displayed.

CBSE has made accessible the digitally signed certificates of Class 10 and 12 (years 2019-2021) CBSE gradually will push the certificates in the coming months. Upon allocation of new certificates by CBSE, the digitally signed certificates will be sent to the system creating an additional secure link. This network is established at – Bangalore, Pune and Jaipur. Currently, the Certificate Chain is managed by NIC at their data centres.

The verification of correctness and genuineness of the certificate with the concerned universities or boards can be easily done, claims CBSE. Data is recorded in the chain based on the consensus of the stakeholders and simultaneously replicated at all the locations in the distributed network of BlockChain nodes.

Blockchain Technology records the data in a distributed ledger with ownership of all participating stakeholders. This eliminates the dependency on a third party for verification.
