Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal introduces study material of Indian Knowledge Tradition courses of NIOS

Minister of education, Ramesh Pokhriyal, ‘Nishank’ has released the study material that has Indian Knowledge Tradition courses of NIOS (National Institute of Open Schooling), Noida.

Speaking at the juncture, Mr Nishank said that the National Institute of Open Schooling is putting efforts to circulate the Indian knowledge tradition nationally and internationally.  The subjects as told by the MoE are: Indian philosophy, Sanskrit literature, Sanskrit language courses, Vedic studies and Sanskrit grammar (prepared for Secondary and Senior Secondary level by NIOS).

He also said that the study materials are obtainable in Hindi and Sanskrit language. They have been translated into English medium as well. All these subjects are being planned to prepare in major foreign languages for the promotion of Indian culture and knowledge tradition abroad.

The Minister said that this course material was prepared by NIOS and reflects the basic spirit of the New Education Policy.

He added that an effort by NIOS has been taken to bring Indian heritage, culture, philosophy and ancient knowledge to the new generation via modern references for their better understanding.

NIOS sets forth school education through Open and Distance Education in the field of Secondary as well as Senior secondary level and vocational training.

NIOS has prepared 15 courses centric to the Indian knowledge tradition: Yoga, Science, Veda, Vocational Skills and other subjects in the languages– Sanskrit, Hindi and English at all 3 levels of Open Basic Education Program. These are equivalent to classes 3rd, 5th and 8th.
