Google Dedicated Home Page to India Teacher’s Day

Today is 5 September and India is celebrating the birth anniversary of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the second president of India. In his honour India celebrates Teacher’s day, as he said to his students, “Instead of celebrating my birthday separately, it would be my proud privilege if September 5 is observed as Teachers’ Day.”

The idea of celebrating Teachers Day took root in many countries during the 20th century; in most cases, they celebrate a local educator or an important milestone in education (for example, Argentina has commemorated Domingo Faustino Sarmiento’s death on 11 September since 1915, while India has celebrated the birthday.

The Google homepage today shows an animation where a teacher, portrayed by a bespectacled pencil holding a book, is leading small pencils depicting students. The student pencils are shown jumping and walking with glee behind the teacher in this colourful looped animation.

Teachers day is celebrated on different dates around the world. Google’s doodle today is the same that the company used on the Teachers Day in the US on May 3.

“It’s impossible to measure the impact of a great teacher. The curiosity they ignite will become the mathematical theorems, medical breakthroughs, and beautiful art that make the world a better place. Today’s homepage by artist Nate Swinehart honors the invaluable civil servants all across the United States who’ve dedicated their lives to molding a thoughtful, compassionate generation of citizens. And to making sure everyone does their homework,” Google had written it on a blogpost on May 3.

“Teaching is a very noble profession that shapes the character, caliber, and future of an individual. If the people remember me as a good teacher, that will be the biggest honour for me. “— APJ Abdul Kalam, former Indian President.

Wishing you all happy Teachers day

“A literary genius, it is said, resembles all, though no one resembles him.  – Dr. S. Radha Krishnan
