Everything has changed for Ed Sheeran, the renowned singer from England. Apparently, he has been sued for allegedly copying a Marvin Gaye song “Let’s get it on” in his song “Thinking out loud”. This is not a small bump for the “shape of you” singer since it’s a $100 million lawsuit. It was filed by Structured Asset Sales, a company that owns one-third of the copyright to “Let’s Get It On.”
TMZ reports, “According to the lawsuit, Sheeran’s song has the same melody, rhythms, harmonies, drums, bassline, backing chorus, tempo, syncopation and looping as ‘Let’s Get it On.’”
Sheeran was a subject to another lawsuit for plagiarism in in 2016 for the same song. Back then, Ed responded that the chord progression and drum patterns are quite common in a lot of songs. The singer and his A team of respondents.
“Thinking Out Loud” was placed at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 2014. The song has been has certified “diamond” by the RIAA for streaming-equivalent sales of more than 10 million copies. Marvon Gaye’s “Let’s Get It On” made it to the top of the Billboard singles chart in 1973 and was certified platinum by the RIAA.
