Coronavirus Omicron India Updates: Over 156.76 crore vaccine doses administered as India marks one year of drive

As per the data updated by the Union Ministry of Health, India reported 2,38,018  fresh Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, while the weekly positivity rate was recorded at 14.92 per cent.

India on Sunday completed one successful year of vaccination drive. According to the Health Ministry’s data, 156.76 crore vaccine doses have been administered with more 92 per cent of the adult population receiving their first dose.

The ministry added that over 68 per cent of them have been fully vaccinated as of now. On January 16, 2021 the vaccination drive began in India. The healthcare workers were the first to be inoculated in the first phase followed by frontline workers whose vaccination started from February 2, 2021.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on the one-year anniversary of the commencement of the vaccination programme in the country, said “I salute each and every individual” associated with it. He also said that the programme added great strength to the fight against Covid-19. It has led to saving lives and thus protecting livelihoods,” he tweeted.

As per the data updated by the Union Ministry of Health, India reported 2,38,018 fresh Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, while the weekly positivity rate was recorded at 14.92 per cent.

The positivity rate also came down at 14.43 per cent from 14.92 per cent. In the last 24 hours, the country also recorded 314 Covid-19 related fatalities, taking the death toll to 4,86,066.

The number of people who have recovered from the infection stands at 1,38,331 and the number of active cases is now at 15,50,377. Moreover, a total of 7,743 Omicron cases have been detected in the country so far —an increase of 28.17 per cent since Saturday.
