Narayana Health, launches a private blood bank with transfusion service

Narayana Health, one of the leading multi-specialty hospitals in Bangalore launched a private blood bank along with the transfusion service. It was inaugurated by Arup Roy, the Minister in Charge of Cooperation department of West Bengal’s Government.

Inaugurating the blood bank in the hospital premises, Mr. Roy stated that it is a great move by Narayana Health Group which will immensely benefit the patients in the district.

Talking about the services provided by the hospital, R Venkatesh, Zonal Director (East), Narayana Hrudayalaya highlighted that the hospital offers comprehensive Cancer Care with organ-specific treatment. The facilities of Cardiac Sciences along with various other tertiary care specialties are also offered by it. All these facilities required the huge support of services from the Transfusion Medicine and blood bank department during surgeries or other procedures.

Venkatesh further added that the blood bank is housed under the Department of Transfusion Medicine and will be functional round the clock. It is well equipped with advanced equipment and high-tech technology.

Dr. Emmanuel Rupert, Chief of Medical Services, Narayana Health highlighted that enhanced chemiluminescence technology would be used by the blood bank in the screening of transfusion-transmitted infections like HIV, Hepatitis etc and column agglutination technology  for immune-haematology testing.

Talking about the launch of the blood bank, Akshay Ole, Facility Director of Narayana Health, stated that “The blood bank is licensed for red cell concentrates, fresh frozen plasma, platelet concentrates etc and at a time when dengue is widespread in the State, the blood bank can help alleviate shortage of platelets,”

Thus, the inauguration of the blood bank in the hospital premises will be of great benefit to the patients. The availability of the transfusion services within the hospital would further aid them in arranging blood replacement faster and can save lives in severe blood loss situations.
