China’s zero Covid Rule: People Forced To Live In Metal Boxes

In a disturbing footage that is being shared over the internet, China can be seen implementing draconian rule on its citizens under “zero Covid” policy, placing millions of citizens under metal boxes in view of the upcoming Winter Olympics.

A videotape that surfaced recently showed big white metal boxes being transported, allegedly carrying COVID-positive patients. In the video, lines of motorcars were seen taking people to counterblockade camps.

The scenes, which sounded straight out of a dystopian movie, are among the several strict preventative measures the country is taking currently to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The authorities are quarantining citizens including pregnant women, children, and even the elderly, and forcing them to stay in these crammed boxes furnished with a rustic bed and a restroom-for as long as two weeks- if a single person tests positive in their location.

On top of that, citizens in several regions were told the night before that they need to leave their houses and go to the isolation centers. In China, the obligatory track-and-trace apps detect and respond to close contacts quickly, followed by two weeks quarantine. According to reports, in China, this mandate has left nearly 20 million people confined to their homes. They are banned from leaving their homes even for buying essential commodities like food.

A few days back, another distressing news came from the same land when a pregnant Chinese woman was delayed access to medical treatment due to a strict lockdown, and after this video, the debates have reignited over the poor treatment of its citizens for limiting the spread of COVID-19.

Unlike other developed nations, China’s policy is strict in terms of lockdowns. Earlier in 2019, when coronavirus was first detected in Wuhan, the country initiated a “dynamic zero” formula – banning people from leaving their houses. To control the spread, authorities forcefully quarantined people inside their apartments if they were considered infectious.
