Pooja Khedkar Controversy: A Timeline of Events

The Pooja Khedkar controversy has recently captured significant public attention after she was accused of forging disability certificate to clear a civil services exam, raising questions about the integrity of the administrative system and the misuse of power leading to IAS Pooja Khedkar training has been put on hold. 

Pooja Khedkar,  a 2023 batch officer Indian Administrative Service (IAS), comes from a bureaucratic and political background. Born in Maharashtra, Ahmednagar district, her father is a retired officer of the Mumbai Pollution Control Board and a politician, Her father was suspended twice during his term in the Maharashtra government on bribery and corruption charges. Pooja’s mother Manorama Khedkar also detained after a video surfaced showing her allegedly threatening some persons with a gun over a land dispute at Dhadwali.

 

The Initial Spark: Allegations Surface

The controversy surrounding Pooja Khedkar first came to light in early 2024 when her unfair and exquisite demands of privileges drew the attention of local officials and activists who asked about the ethics and entitlement exhibited by a probationary officer. Pooja Khedkar secured an All India Rank of 841 in the UPSC exam. Reports also claimed she availed the benefits under the Persons with Benchmark Disabilities category, claiming to suffer from “blindness and mental illness” where she didn’t immediately appear for mandatory medical examination in AIIMS and when she did, she refused to undergo a ‘brain scan’ which was crucial for assessing the severity of her visual impairment. puja Khedkar controversy further grew when a local activist raised a question about her OBC certificate, He claimed that Pooja Khedkar owned property worth Rs 17 crore and his father posses assets and wealth worth 40 crore with an annual income of Rs 49 lakhs.

In response to the allegations, Pooja Khedkar addressed the media, vehemently denying any wrongdoing. She claimed herself a victim of the media trial and emphasized her hard work and dedication towards achieving her dream of becoming an IAS officer. Pooja also highlighted the challenges she faced, including societal pressures and personal obstacles, which made her success even more significant.

 

Pooja Khedkar Case Investigation

As the controversy gained momentum, an official investigation was launched to probe the claims made against Pooja Khedkar. The investigation aimed to scrutinize her IAS marksheet and misuse of her disability certificate to gain an unfair advantage in the examination process and determine whether any irregularities had occurred.
