RummyCircle embraces Supreme Court’s judgment on game of skills

Last year on August 18, Supreme Court declared Rummy, as a game of skills than misunderstood form of gambling. The verdict came in favor of game service providers along with players as the court didn’t see any valid reason to interfere with the skilled game which is based on legal principles. The CEO of RummyCircle, Bhavin Pandya embraced the verdict by saying, “We are very satisfied by the decision of the Supreme Court, which effectively sustained the earlier legal position with respect to the legality of games of skill for stakes.”

In 1957, Supreme Court’s constitutional bench called rummy, a game of skill-based activities. This case was reopened once again in horse racing case of Tamil Nadu where a constitutional protection was given as a game of skill.

In March 2012, Madras High Court declared Indian Rummy as gambling, if stakes are involved. This decision was challenged by Chennai-based city club, Mahalakshmi Cultural Association. Other online rummy companies like Play Games24x7 Private Ltd which runs, joined the plea by claiming that the ruling would affect their business.
