At halfway stage, here’s how the Dream11 IPL 2020 teams are faring

This year’s IPL has been quite different from the last many seasons for more than one reason. We are already at the halfway stage of Dream11 IPL 2020 and the points table has already been splitted into two halves. The veteran players are losing the touch, as young brigade takes over the mental. Here’s a brief about how the team are faring after the completion of 37th match:

Delhi Capitals

Led by an enthusiastic captain in Shreyas Iyer, Delhi Capitals are heading the points table this year. Having managed 7 wins out of 9 matches, the young brigade is set to walk into the playoffs with ease. The question however would be whether they can continue to lead the table and get two shots to book a spot in the finals.

Mumbai Indians

One of the most successful teams in the history of IPL, Mumbai Indians are sitting pretty with 6 wins out of 9 matches. They are occupying the second spot, but they are just two points behind Delhi Capitals and may overtake them with a better NRR if Kings XI Punjab manages to defeat Delhi Capitals in their next game.

Royal Challengers Bangalore

The Kohli’s boys have finally cracked the code of doing the bulk of work in the first part of the league phase to stay afloat in their bid to book a spot in the top four. Everything seems hunky dory for the RCB team and they look set to nail their place in the top four this year.

Kolkata Knight Riders

Led by Dinesh Karthik in the first 7 games of the tournament, KKR impressed with four wins. However, the captain spontaneously decided to give up captaincy, as Eoin Morgan took over to aim for an easy passage into the top four. Kolkata Knight riders will need to be cautious of their approach, as they have managed 5 wins out of 9 games and they will still need to win 3 games to ensure an easy passage into the top 4.

Rajasthan Royals

Things may not have gone their way till now, but the Rajasthan Royals have won 4 games out of 10 matches they have played so far. The equation is pretty straight forward for them and need to win all their games to directly qualify for the next stage of the tournament. However, if they can win 3 games with decent margins, mathematically they can still make it to the top 4 if KKR, Punjab and SRH lose 3 or more games.

Sunrisers Hyderabad

The first phase of their league stage was gold and team SRH seemed to be on their way from the word go. But, the last 5 games have been suicidal for the Sunrisers, as they have just managed to win one game. If they had won their last match against Kolkata that went into the super over, SRH would have been sitting pretty. Now, they too have to win all their matches or win 3 out of 4 games with decent margins to keep their hopes alive.

King XI Punjab

Hanging by the cliff, Kings XI Punjab has ensured that all is not gloom for them. They may be sitting at the 7th spot with 3 wins in 9 games, the introduction of Chris Gayle has certainly boosted their morale. The KL Rahul-led side is battling hard to stay in contention and their next match against Delhi Capitals is going to be crucial in the context.

Chennai Super Kings

The former champions are struggling big time. Their hopes have all but dashed, except for a minute mathematical chance of getting into the playoffs. They will need to win all their matches and hope all other results go their way, besides maintaining a good Net Run Rate.

At this stage of the IPL, if the bottom 4 teams lose their next games, the rest of the league stage will almost become irrelevant with teams depending on mathematical calculations rather than relying on their own gameplay to get into playoffs.
