India’s Big Billion Days: Flipkart aims to double the size of electronic sales

Ahead of the festival season, Flipkart  ̶  one of the India’s leading e-commerce giant  ̶  is forging partnerships with key players like Xiaomi and Blaupunkt, expecting to take electronic sales to a new height, while competing with online retailers like Amazon and Snapdeal.

Sandeep Karwa, head of electrical appliances, Flipkart, said that the company is expecting double sales jump in the category of refrigerators, TV sets and other electrical gadgets in October, as compared to any regular month.

After forming an exclusive partnership Flipkart is pushing Xiaomi TV sets, which is emerging as a growing TV brand on the e-portal.

According to Flipkart internal statistics, Single Day (China), and Black Friday (USA), gives opportunities for big brands to climb the ladder of top selling brands, “we want to be sure that same phenomenon happen during Flipkart: The Big billion day. For example if any brand with a name of A,B and C are top 3 brands, flipkart will work with the brand who is no 7 spot making it potential big brands during BBD” –  said Sandeep Karwa

Echoing similar experience, Flipkart CEO Kalyan Krishnamurthy, said, “Flipkart is pushing executives to set aggressive targets to win the festive battles against mega e-commerce giants, offering competitive sales offers, henceforth creating disruption in the e-commerce market.

For the longest time, Flipkart created an added advantage over e-commerce sellers in terms of electrical appliances while expanding its warehouses. The company also identified high value products, such as mobile phones, large electrical appliances and furniture, while lowering cost on low value products.

The advantage for Flipkart came when they pushed ownership in Jeeves Consumer Services Pvt Ltd, acquiring undisclosed amount of stakes in late 2014. However since the last few months, e-commerce giant Amazon is also competing with Flipkart in terms of sales and warehouses.

Commenting on the ‘BBD Electrical Sale’, Adarsh Menon who heads private labels at Flipkart, said, “We want to make sure that our brand emerges as a full-fledged consumer brand which deals with various segments”.
